1. SUPPORTED PRINTER MODELS

 

The HDT47x2 Printer Driver can be used for IBM 4712, IBM 4722 printers (please note that the REMS unit is not supported!) and IBM printers that support 4722 emulation (models 4009, 9068, 9069, 9055-002, Jarfalla BP24, etc.).

2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

 

This software can be installed only on Windows 95/98, and on PC (Intel processor or compatible) hardware environment. The IBM printer must be serial connected to the PC and MUST have Ucode level 6.01 or higher.
Failure to meet any of the above requirements will result in unpredictable result for both your system and hardware.

3. CABLE CONNECTION

 

You can find below the scheme for making the connection cable between computer and IBM 47x2 printer.

4. INSTALLATION

 

1. Unzip the distribution files in a temporary folder.
2. Install the driver just as any other printer driver: go to Control Panel and double click the Printers icon, click on the Add Printer icon, press Next and when the Add Printer Wizard appears, press Have Disk, then Browse to the temporary folder where you have unzipped the files, and select the HDT47x2.inf file, and press OK. The installation should begin. During the installation a new port will appear on the list of available ports - HDT47x2 Printer Port. You should choose this port (don't choose any of the COM or LPT ports), and proceed with the installation until it is finished.
3. Go to the temporary directory where you have unzipped the files and double click on the HDT4722.reg file - this should update the registry with all the information that the driver will need in order to work properly.
4. Copy the HDT47x2.ini file in the main Windows folder (C:\Windows for ex.)
5. Go to Control Panel and double click the Printers icon, select the newly installed HDT47x2 printer, right click and choose Properties, press the Details tab and then the Port Settings button. A dialog will appear where you can choose the appropriate COM port to which the printer is attached and also the printing speed.

5. PRINTER FONTS

 

HDT47x2 Printer Driver comes with resident printer fonts. For example, you can see this fonts when you:

• start WordPad;
• go to Page Setup and select HDT47x2 Printer;
• open the combo box with fonts from the toolbar; and
• look for font names that have printer icon in front of them.

If you print with the printer fonts you can gain in printing speed. Currently supported code pages are: 437 (ASCII - Default), 855 (Cyrillic), 850 (Multilingual: all European countries and Latin American countries).

6. PRINTING GRAPHICS

 

HDT47x2 prints graphics with only 8 pins of the printer head. This is limitation of the IBM printer model 47x2. Because of that the printing speed and quality is average. If you print only text, we recommend using "Prestige" printer fonts for fastest printing.

7. SETTINGS

 

In your Windows folder you can find HDT47x2.INI file. In this INI file you can specify following settings:

In the [Messages] section:

- ShowMessages variable tells the driver to show messages in a message box. Set this variable to 1 if you want to see messages and respond to them. Otherwise set this variable to 0.

- ShowExceptionMessages variable tells the driver to show error messages due to which the printing has stopped. Set this variable to 1 if you want to see this messages. Otherwise set to 0.

In the [Buffer] section:

- Length variable tells the driver how big buffer to allocate for printing documents. This variable is set to 512 bytes by default. Using this variable in conjunction with UseBuffer=1 can vastly improve printing speed. You can experiment with the size of the buffer. It is always better to set the buffer size to 512 or 1024 bytes, because if the buffer is set to a larger size, when the printer is stopped its internal buffer might still not be empty, and when the next printing starts the printer could print some garbage.

- UseBuffer variable tells the driver that it should use a buffer when printing (1-selected and 0-not selected). This is useful if you want to gain in printing speed. If you need high printing speed, we recommend you to set this variable to 1 and to set the Length variable to the desired size.

8. UNINSTALLATION

 

To uninstall the printer driver, go to the Printers folder and delete the printer. After that, start Regedit and delete the following registry key if it is not deleted:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\HDT 47x2 Port Monitor]

Restart the computer.

Delete following files from your Windows System folder:
HDT4009.DLL
HDTMON.DLL
WNT47x2.DLL
WNTSFPRT.DLL

9. CURRENT LIMITATIONS

 

1. Printer fonts. The correct shapes of the printer fonts typefaces are not implemented on the screen fonts. It means that even though the font typefaces look as standard on the screen, you will still have the correct typeface on the printout.

2. Messages and error messages are only in English.

3. The driver is not WOSA/XFS compliant because it is designed as a standard Windows printer driver.

11. VERSION HISTORY

 

March 2000:
1.5.3 Version.

- Windows 95/98 version of the driver completed.

1.5.2.25 Version.

- Fixed bug in version 1.5.2.24: Occasional "General Protection Fault" error received after sellecting "Cancel" from the dialog box that appears after each printed page while printing multiple pages.


November 1999:
1.5.2.24 Version.

- "Communication Error" bug fixed.
- Misc. section and UsingOnlyPrinterFonts variable in the INI file are removed.
- UseBuffer variable added in Buffer section of the INI file.
- Minor changes in user information and interaction.
- Some changes in the documentation files.

12. DEMO VERSION

 

The demo version of the printer driver is fully functional but our company name, e-mail and web address appear on the top of each printed page. This is not the case in the registered version.
